Oscars 2022: Will Belfast Be Named The Best Movie?

As the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony is drawing nearer, people all around the world are eager to know which motion picture will get the title of the best movie this year. So far the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced shortlists in several categories such as Documentary Feature, International Feature Film, Animated Short Film, and others. However, the full list of 2022 Oscars nominations, including the much anticipated Best Motion Picture nomination, will only be revealed on February 8, 2022.

There are several predictions as to which film will be named “the best movie of 2021”. The movies that were released between March 1 and the end of December 2021 are all eligible for Oscar nomination. The leading contestants include Belfast, West Side Story, The Power of the Dog, King Richard, and Dune. Many movie experts agree that Belfast, a drama directed by Kenneth Branagh, is the main competitor in the best movie category. The film has received high praise from both the critics and the public and was nominated for seven Golden Globe Awards and eleven Critics Choice Movie Awards.

However, you can never be sure of the outcome when it comes to the Academy Awards. After all, the Oscars have always been full of surprises. Belfast has many strong competitors this year. Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, the classic stage musical adaptation, has the same amount of Golden Globe and Critics Choice Movie Awards nominations. The Power of the Dog, a western directed by Jane Campion, is not too far behind and has a good chance to win the main award as well.

The best movie of 2021 will be determined during the voting that will take place between 17th and 22nd March 2022. The 94th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 27 and will be available to watch online at ABC.com.
